Auckland City Football Club proves to world they mean business

The Auckland City Football Club
arrived home today after making it to the finals
of the FIFA World Cup in Morocco. The momentous feat earned them
a spot in the Halberg Awards, news that surprised them
as they were welcomed home. Players started arriving
back in the country from Morocco, thrilled with the news
of their nomination. Indeed they do,
as the Navy Blues are now officially the 3rd
best football club in the world. The team beat Mexico’s Cruz Azul, and it wasn’t Tamati Williams
defending the goal the last round, but although Jacob Spoonley
was up for his first start, he stepped up to the mark, winning 2-0, a victory that
even they perhaps didn’t foresee. Captain Ivan Visilich won
3rd best player of the tournament and is also up
for Sportsman of the Year. The prize for their victory? $3 million,
and a new place among the stars. It seems our amateur players
are nothing short of amazing. Peata Melbourne, Te Karere.
