‘It’s sad to see.’ Local sports club destroyed by fire

NICOLE: BECAUSE THE THE DAMAGE
RIGHT HERE. SO MUCH MORE THAN AN ATHLETIC
CLUB, IT WAS A NONPROFIT
ORGANIZATION. IT HAS GIVEN HUNDREDS OF
SCHOLARSHIPS TO CHILDREN IN THIS
COMMUNITY.>>IT IS SAD TO SEE. IT’S SAD TO SEE THIS PIECE OF
HISTORY, THIS BUILDING. NICOLE: A HISTORY BORN FROM A
COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY. 70 YEARS OF YOUTHFUL SUPPORT,
NOW PHYSICALLY IN CRUMBLES.>>THEY WANTED TO SUPPORT LOCAL
SPORTS IN THE COMMUNITY. IT JUST GREW FROM THERE. NICOLE: FOR MORE THAN SIX
DECADES THE LIVESY CLUB IN
FAIRHAVEN WAS A PLACE FOR
MEMBERS TO GATHER. THROUGH FUNDRAISING AND
ENGAGEMENT TO ENCOURAGE YOUNG
ATHLETES, AND THE SPIRIT OF
SPORTS. THEY ARE LEARNING THE VALUE
OF TEAMWORK, AND THAT IS SO VERY
IMPORTANT. NICOLE: FLAMES TORE THROUGH THE
ORGANIZATIONS HOME EARLY SUNDAY
MORNING. DESTROYING MANY OF THE TOKENS
COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS THAT
BUILT ITS FOUNDATION.>>WE WILL SALVAGE WHAT WE CAN. THERE WILL BE THINGS THAT ARE
GONE, BUT WE HAVE PEOPLE WITH
MEMORIES THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE
TO SHARE. IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO SHARE
MEMORIES GOING FORWARD. NICOLE: AS WE WALKED AROUND THE
GROUNDS WITH MEMBERS OF THE
BOARD.>>RESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO
STARTED THIS. IT IS OUR JOB TO KEEP IT GOING. NICOLE: MEMBERS OF THE
NON-PROFIT FAMILY, AND THE
COMMUNITY TIED TOGETHER BY
MULTI-GENERATIONAL STORIES. STOPPED BY, ONE AFTER THE OTHER,
THE SILENT LOOK OF A FADING
HISTORY IN THEIR EYES. MIXED WITH A HOPEFUL VIEW TO THE
FUTURE.>>THE CLUB IS MORE THAN BRICKS,
MORTAR AND A ROO
