S. Korean football team to face Bahrain in Asian Cup round of 16

The line-up for the next stage of the Asian
Cup is confirmed. South Korea got through the group stage comfortably,
and will face Bahrain in their first knockout match. Won Jung-hwan provides a glimpse of what to
expect. The line-up for the knockout rounds is complete
after the final group stage matches took place on Thursday night across the United Arab Emirates. The South Korean football team, who had already
secured their passage to the knockout rounds after their first two matches,… will face
Bahrain in the round of 16 in their quest to win their first Asian Cup since 1960. The Taeguk Warriors will take on Bahrain,
who are 60 places below them in the FIFA rankings, in Dubai on Tuesday at 10PM Korean Time. South Korea have the better record in matches
against Bahrain, with 10 wins, four draws and two losses. However, the underdogs, Bahrain, do have a
superior record at the Asian Cup with two wins and a loss,… having stunned the South
Koreans in 1988 and in 2007. The Taeguk Warriors’ superstar Son Heung-min
is looking to continue his good form. In the previous match against China, Son,
who only arrived in the Emirates earlier this week after being released by club side Tottenham
Hotspur, proved to be a key figure in South Korea’s two-nil victory. Meanwhile, Vietnam, led by South Korean coach
Park Hang-seo, also secured their ticket to the round of 16. Vietnam were tied on points and goal difference
with Lebanon, but progressed due to their better fair play record. The fair play points system, which was first
used at last year’s World Cup,… uses the number of yellow or red cards to determine
which team progresses to the next stage when the teams’ points and goal difference are
the same. Vietnam will play Jordan in the round of 16. Won Jung-hwan, Arirang News.
